Changing of the Guard.

On the weekend I went and watched surfers compete in the first competition of the year, (on the world circuit), at a right hand point break called Snapper Rocks in Cooloongatta just near where I live.

A good friend of mine runs the A.S.P. (association of surfing professionals). He hooked me up with a few V.I.P. passes where I sat in some of best seats you can get and watched in total appreciation.
It was good for many reasons.

Just one of them was seeing a young Australian, Julian Wilson, beat the multiple world champion, Kelly Slater.
For those that don’t know, Kelly is a savage competitor and a very good surfer and Julian is relatively new in comparison.
To beat Kelly is an incredible feat.

Maybe this is the beginning of change?

The atmosphere was intense.

It was seriously hot, I looked at the surfing going down and at the spectators.

It was like I what I would imagine Ipanema Beach to look like.

I did my favorite thing and just watched the world go by.
